WHAT IS FBLA


FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) is the largest student business organization in the country with over 250,000 members. Membership in FBLA prepares students for "real world" professional experiences and is open to all students who are enrolled in a business or a business-related class at CMS. We have a busy year planned this year with many activities that provide the students with leadership skills, conferences, competitions, service projects, friendship, field trips and, most of all, success!

UPCOMING EVENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS




  • Congratulations to the 6th grade Dodgeball playoff winners, The Crushers! Winners of the 7th grade bracket were The Mustangs. These two teams play each other for the honor of playing against the 8th grade bracket winners tomorrow before the school. The overall winners play the teachers! Proceeds from the tournament will go to a local child fighting cancer.

We will have an "end of the year" picnic after school the last day, from 12:00pm until 1:30pm. We will vote on next year's officers and celebrate a terrific year for our FBLA club!


ACTIVITIES


  • A group of 66 students, teachers, and parents went to New York City May 20-22. We encountered a "little" rain, but other than that, we had a fantastic time!! Maybe next year...Chicago??

  • 22 Seventh grade girls attended the Women in Computing Day at Virginia Tech's Computer Science Department. We had a fantastic day! Click here or here to see pictures of the event.

  • 39 FBLA students attended a luncheon to learn about Business Etiquette luncheon on Friday, April 11 at The Inn at Virginia Tech. Mrs. Erdyli displayed her fine china and taught us all the rules of etiquette, while we enjoyed a delicious meal.

  • We just wrapped up our 2nd annual Spring Book Fair. Students learned a lot about handling money, setting up a fundraiser and marketing!

  • On March 14, 2008 we took 19 students to our Spring Leadership Conference in Roanoke. Our chapter won 1st place for Largest Membership! We also had several winners in competitions. Congratulations to the following winners:

    • 2nd place, Slide Show - Sarah Peters, Sierra Queen, Michelle Reed
    • 2nd place, Spreadsheets - Katlin White
    • 1st place, Keyboarding Applications - Caitlin Stump
    • 1st place, Keyboarding Applications II - Jiyun Chang
    • 1st place, Career Exploration - Caleb Reed
    • 1st place, Proofreading and Editing - Hannah Duff

  • Over 1400 items were collected for families in our community during the Salvation Army canned food drive, enough to feed families for three months!

  • 23 members enjoyed our Holiday dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 13. It was delicious!

  • On October 17, 2007 we went to Virginia Western Community College for our fall conference.
