Introduction

Welcome to Business Exploratory. In this course, we will consider the role of business in our society and examine your connection to business and our economy.

Course Description

Business Exploratory is a one-semester course. During the next 18 weeks we will explore the following topics:
  • Marketing
    • What is Marketing
    • 4 P's of Marketing
    • Advertising and promotion techniques
    • Marketing careers

  • Entrepreneurship:
    • Different types of businesses
    • Developing a business plan
    • Hiring personnel
    • Marketing your business

  • Banking:
    • Writing and endorsing checks, making deposits
    • Keeping a check register
    • Making various banking transactions
    • Reconciling bank statements
    • Banking careers

  • Accounting:
    • Accounting terminology
    • Assets, liabilities, capital
    • Debits and credits

Grading Policy

Quizzes, tests and projects will be used during the semester to assess student learning. There will also be timed-writings to evaluate keyboarding speed and accuracy. At the end of the semester, a final project will be completed to demonstrate mastery of all material covered in the course. The grading scale is based on a 10-point scale with 90-100=A, 80-89=B, 70-79=C, 60-69=D; and below 60=F.

Homework

There is little homework other than studying for quizzes and tests. If a students needs or wants to stay after school or come in early to catch up, talk to me and I will be happy to schedule a time.

Absences
If a student is absent, he/she will have five (5) days to make up missed work. It is the student's responsibility to come to me for assignments. If not turned in after five days, a zero will be recorded.

Supplies

  • Pen/pencil
  • Notebook

Students need a pen and notebook daily. Notebooks will be kept in the business room. These notebooks will be checked periodically throughout the semester for a participation grade.
