Dear Parent/Guardian: I am looking forward to having your child in Keyboarding this semester. Your child will be learning skills that he/she will be able to use throughout his/her life. In the next several weeks, your child will develop and enhance touch skills for entering alphabetic, numeric, and symbol information on a keyboard. Your child will learn proper posture and technique. Students will compose and produce a variety of personal, educational and professional documents. Proper keyboarding will be expected and reinforced in all computer use after students have mastered the keys. Skills mastered this semester: Alphabetic and numeric keyboard Microsoft Word Timed Writings Technique Proofreader's marks Formatting of text Reports Business letters Memos Students will be expected to check the board upon coming into class for daily assignments. Grading will be based on completing class assignments correctly and in a timely manner. Their grades will consist of participation, classwork, technique, timed writings, quizzes, tests, having supplies and business documents. The grading scale is 90-100=A, 80-89=B, 70-79=C, 60-69=D, 59 and below=F. They will need to study for quizzes and tests outside of the classroom. Classwork will be completed in class unless prior arrangements have been made. The only supply the student will need is a pencil. All other materials will be provided unless otherwise notified. The students will have a folder that will be kept in the classroom. This folder will contain their completed assignments Attendance is of the utmost importance and will be taken and recorded. The work will be completed in class on a daily basis so the students need to be in class every day. If a student is absent, the makeup work will be posted on the board. The students may check the board at the beginning of class to see what they missed and make arrangements with me to make it up. Students are to work quietly without distracting others. Consequences for classroom distractions are: 1. Warning 2. Phone call to parent/guardian 3. After-school detention/lunch detention 4. Referral to the office This will be an important time for your child to learn and improve his/her keyboarding skills. Your child has the opportunity to develop proper keyboarding habits that will last a lifetime and enhance his/her ability to word process assignments, while also improving language arts skills. Your support and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated and will impact your child's success with this program. If you have any questions, you may call me at 394-2180 ext. 600 or e-mail me at esloss@mail.mcps.org. Sincerely, Ellen Sloss Business Education Teacher Please read, sign and send back with your child. Thank you. |
