From this marker, one gets a good view of the island. Until recently, a stately hemlock tree grew at the western end. Now, its bleaching skeleton can be seen. Also at this point one can see the remains of a beaver lodge which was occupied, for a short while, at the same time as the one nearly 180 degrees across the Pond at Marker 9. The cove to right of this marker frequently is the sounding site of large bullfrogs in the summer.
Along this area, nettles are obvious. From time-to-time, a Queen snake can be observed in the warm weather in the Alders that tangle the bank here, and most places around the Pond.
