This is a transition site. It is backed by the cool moist hardwood forest, passes an inlet stream on the way to stop 6, and faces the Island and a cove in which snapping turtles can sometimes be seen floating by. The inlet stream, flowing thorugh a vernal pool with frogs and crayfish resident much of the warmer seasons, is home to a large blacksnake which crawls in and out around the pipe under the path.
