Web Counters

Web counters show you how many times a page has been accessed. For example, this page has been accessed 92 times.

To create a counter like this:
  1. In the Full Editor, go to the site that includes the page you want to add a counter to.
  2. Choose "Add to..." from the "File" menu. Under "Objects", choose "Simple Web Counter" and click "Create". This will add an object named "Untitled Web Counter".
  3. Select "Untitled Web Counter" and choose "Rename" from the File menu. In this example I renamed the counter object "counter".
  4. THIS IS IMPORTANT: Double-click the counter object to open it. You will see a window asking you whether or not you want to allow the counter to be updated by unauthenticated users. Click "Yes". (You will only have to do this once.)
  5. On the counter window you will see a preview of what the counter will look like, and can choose how you want the counter to be shown. In this example, the "Show counter as text" setting was selected. (This is the default.)
  6. Add the counter to a page using backslashes. For example, the first sentence on this page appears as "...has been accessed <B>\counter\<B> times...".

You can embed the counter in the text anywhere that you like, and put formatting tags around it to change its appearance. You can also generate counters that display as images by choosing "Show counter as odometer image" in step 5 above. In that case, counters will look like:

image counter (91 hits)

You can reset the counter from the full editor by double-clicking the counter object and choosing "Reset counter value..." from the "Counter" menu.
