Diagrams
The Drawing tool allows you to connect shapes and attach urls. This example site includes a drawing in the left sidebar that you can click to move from page to page (jason's note - it doesn't. i broke that but will fix it. or something.). To add this kind of diagram to a site in the Full Editor:
- Create a drawing object
- Go to the site (or create a new site)
- Select "Add to..." from the "File" menu
- Select "Objects", "Blank Drawing", and click "Create"
- Rename the Drawing object by selecting it and choosing "Rename" under the file menu
- Open the drawing by double-clicking it
- Draw the diagram
- To draw shapes, choose the appropriate shape tool from the toolbar and drag the mouse on the drawing area
- To add text, choose the text tool, click on the drawing area, and type
- To add links between objects, choose one of the link tools (both "straight" and "elbow" links are supported) and drag from one object to another
- To change colors, fonts, or arrow styles, select an object and choose the appropriate attribute from the "Attributes" menu.
- Associate pages with objects in the diagram
- If the pages you want to link to do not exist, create them in the site by going to the "Exploring..." window, selecting the site, and choosing "Add to..." from the "File" menu.
- In the drawing, choose the "URL" tool from the toolbar and click on an object
- In the dialog that appears, you can either select an object in the site to link to or enter a URL if you want the link to go to an external web site.
- Embed the drawing in a web page
- In a web page in the site, add the name of the drawing enclosed by backslashes, e.g. "
\my diagram\".
- If you want the diagram to appear on all pages in the site, you can put it on a web page object that is used as a sidebar, header, or footer. On this site, for example, the diagram is in a web page object named "TOC" and the site's template object is set up to use "TOC" as the left sidebar on all pages. Note that any object in a drawing can be linked to a page, including images (pictures) or invisible shapes (shapes with line color and fill color set to "none") drawn on top of images.
