Thunder is the loud sound that emits from lightning. It is extremely loud, and can be heard from several miles away. From up close, the sound can be deafening. Actually, thunder is a key part of the process of tracking lightning. Thunder travels at 700 mph. People say thet if you see lightning, and count the seconds before the thunder comes, the lightning will be the number of miles away that you counted to. Actually, every second is not one mile. Every 6 seconds is one mile, roughly.
