Accessing project materials from home

You can access your project materials from home or elsewhere if:
  1. You have an internet connection. A cable modem or DSL line will be better, but you will be able to access the software over a regular modem as well.
  2. Are running Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, or XP; Mac OSX 10.1 or 10.2; or Linux.

If you are running Mac OSX, the software you need is already installed. If you are running Windows or Linux, you will need to download version 1.0.1 of a piece of software called "Java WebStart". You can download this from:

http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/javawebstart-platform.sh?

Make sure you get the 1.0.1 version, and not the newer 1.2 version. (We'll be updating our software to support new versions at some point in the future.)

Once WebStart is installed, you can go to the project web page at:

http://teacherbridge.cs.vt.edu/public/projects/AMS+Env+Quality

and access your project just as you do in the classroom. If you have problems loading WebStart or accessing the project site, please contact Philip Isenhour (isenhour@vt.edu) or Craig Ganoe (ganoe@vt.edu).

In the near future we will:
  • Have instructions for viewing and editing project materials on machines that do not have WebStart installed.
