Winter Newsletter:
I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing holiday break. As students return to CMS, many important dates and activities are on the horizon. The end of the first semester is fast approaching in mid-January. In February we will begin registering students for classes next year. During the month of May, our students will be taking the Virginia SOL assessments. The faculty and staff of CMS is committed to promoting the MCPS vision and mission statement, "Students First! Plant the Seed, Make it Grow!" We believe all of our students have the potential to reach their dreams and we are committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment.
During the first semester, our students took two math benchmark assessments and one reading benchmark assessment. After analyzing our data, we are very pleased and encouraged about the academic progress our students are making. As we strive for three years of state accreditation, we encourage our students to do their very best. Our AYP goals for the 2010 school year are an 85% pass rate in reading and a 83% pass rate in math. In addition to academic goals, CMS will continue the school-wide Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. Teachers, students, parents and community members will be working together to stamp out bullying and provide a safe learning environment for all students. Through our advisory period, students will be able to receive additional instruction or participate in a variety of student activities. After school, students may receive academic tutoring through the Boy's and Girl's Club or SOLAR program.
It is not too late to join the CMS PTA. The CMS PTA is always accepting of new members and you are always welcome to visit CMS during normal school hours. Together we will continue to capitalize on the gains we have made and provide a brighter future for our students.
Challenge + Motivation = Success
