Summer Newsletter

I hope everyone is enjoying the well deserved summer break. We are still waiting on the "official scores" from the 2010 SOL's but I am optimistic that the final data will show continuing academic gains in all areas. Our students were very focused during the exam period and put forward their best effort. I would like to thank the CMS PTA for a wonderful field day experience for all students and their dedication to supporting all programs that have a positive impact on the students and staff at CMS.

As we look ahead to the start of the 2010-2011 school year, there will be a few changes to the CMS daily schedule. We will be implementing a "flexible schedule" in all grade levels. Through this approach we are attempting to meet each student at their readiness level and then challenge them appropriately in a safe and supportive environment. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of each individual student and transforming to a "flexible schedule" will allow us to meet the needs of all students more effectively. The "flexible schedule" increases instructional time in the core areas and will provide a smoother transition for students entering 6th grade and moving to 9th grade. Students will still have physical education/health every day and those students in band, chorus, Spanish I or French I will not be impacted. More information will be shared at the CMS Open House.

Thank you for taking the time to read the principal's corner. CMS Summer Office hours are 8:00-3:30. Please feel free to call or email me during the summer months if you have any questions. Enjoy the rest of the summer break and thank you for being an active participant in your child's education.

Challenge + Motivation = Success
