Locality

Christiansburg is the county seat located near the center of Montgomery County in southwest Virginia. The town covers 13.9 square miles of beautful Blue Ridge mountains in the New River Valley with an elevation of 2100 feet. The population in year 2000 was 16,947. The town boasts an impressive history. Christiansburg was founded in 1792 on land donated by Colonel James Craig. The town was named for Colonel William Christian, brother-in-law of Patrick Henry. In the early colonial times, Christiansburg sat on the edge of the frontier. Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett both lived in Christiansburg for some time. Records in the courthouse inlcude a warrant for Boone's arrest for an outstanding debt. Booker T. Washington supervised the Christiansburg Industrial Institute in 1885. The School

The newly built Christiansburg Middle School is located on the southwestern edge of the town of Christiansburg, Virginia and serves approximately 725 students in grades six, seven and eight. It is one of four middle schools in the Montgomery County Public Schools system. See photos of the construction here
