Welcome to Health Assistant one

This class prepares the student to be a certified Nurses Aide .
In this class we study a wide variety of topics such as : The role of the Nurse Aide, Communicating with the Health Team , Growth and Development , Body Mechanics , Nutrition and fluids, Infection control ,Medical ethics and law, The importance of confidentiality, Bedmaking , How to assist the client with personal hygeine,personal care and grooming, Rehabilitation and restorative care, common health problems, how to take temperature,pulse and respirations, medical terminology, basic first aide and c.p.r. . WE will study Mental Health Problems, The dying Person, Dementia,and various other topics. We frequently have labs in which the student learns and is able to demonstrate how to wash hands, measure and record weight, provide mouth care ,dress a client who has had a stroke , transfer client from bed to wheelchair ,ambulate a client,range of motion exercises , how to clean and store dentures,measure and record urinary output,provide catheter care,put on elastic stockings, provide foot care, provide nail care, feed a client who can not feed himself,give a bath and position a client on their side.
We arrive at the clinical setting at The Kroontje Medical Center(part of Warm Hearth Villiage ) each Monday and Wednesday's. There the students are able to apply the skills that are taught in class, under the direct supervision by myself or a licensed staff from the facility . After sucessful completion of the class and test the student is able to take the state exam and become a C.N.A. This course is accrediated by the Board of Education as well as the Board of Nursing . This class both allows and prepares the student for the work place . It is a fun , and wonderful class. It is also a lot of work and yet, a very rewarding class. .
